Now why have a security led on the drivers door we all park with the passenger side to the kerb so why not have the led on the passenger door?
well I didn't want to start running cables everywhere so I decided to put it central as above for 2 reasons.
1.) it was easy
2.) all wiring is there
Let me explain, the Hazard warning switch has among others a constant live and an ignition live, if you connect the led between these 2 points (via a 560ohm resistor) when the ignition is off it flashes as it earths through the ignition system. Clever or what!!
How to fit.
prepare led by wiring it to 2 leads apx 6inches long. with one lead connecting to the led via a 560 ohm resistor.
remove hazard switch
bezel
using a sharp screwdriver, be careful not to mark/scratch the plastic.
now remove hazard switch.
now connect led between black/white and red/green
(big thick wires on corner of connector next to each other). if you have key in
ignition take it out, the led should flash if it doesn't reverse the connections
(led's only work one way round). turn on ignition and led should stop flashing.
to mount it drill a 5mm hole below hazard switch as in top photo and insert led (assuming you have used a 5mm led). reassemble and voila all done.
Parts used flashing led Maplin part number UK36 560ohm resistor M560R 2 bits of wire.
total cost under £1
time taken to fit less than 10 minutes.
You may notice the OCTAVIA on my badge is not silver, I rubbed it off as it got on my nerves as it was horrible.
